One in Eight: Janice’s Journey

One in Eight: Janice’s Journey tells the story of Janice’s battle, from diagnosis, through chemotherapy and radiation treatments, on to her subsequent recovery. Only thirty three years old when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, Janice Fine is an articulate, funny, and forthright subject as the camera follows her through treatment sessions, doctor consultations and personal reflections. Asking the important question of why the incidence of breast cancer is increasing, the film examines the epidemic of cancer on Janice’s native Long Island.

One In Eight was broadcast internationally on the Discovery Network, won top honors at WorldFest Houston, New England Film and Video Festival, the Health Education Awards, and was screened at film festivals, conferences, and educational events throughout the world.

Cynthia A. McKeown is an award-winning filmmaker and Web producer who has been making documentaries and education media for over twenty years. Her worked has been broadcast internationally on television, screened at film festivals and shown in theaters. For ten years, Ms. McKeown was a Producer at the Boston premier PBS television station, WGBH, where she produced media that featured best practice instructional mvethods in mathematics, science, and early literacy.
