Back on Board made its world premiere at the AFI Documentary Film Festival this month.  Cheryl, Greg Louganis, and producer Will Sweeney were also chosen to attend a meeting at The White House in connection with the festival. The film played to a packed house and was met with a standing ovation at the Castro Theater in San Francisco at the Frameline Film Festival, and the documentary has also just won the Audience Award at Outfest. Stay tuned for more screenings of this fantastic

An intimate portrait of an American legend, BACK ON BOARD Greg Louganis, is a feature-length documentary that tells the life story of this four-time Olympic Champion as he returns to diving after a long period of absence.

Back on Board explores the captivating, compelling, and complicated life of an Olympic star whose athletic talent spurred a worldwide fascination with diving. Part biography, part social exploration – this film reveals Louganis’ evolution from childhood diving prodigy to Olympic champion, and from pioneering openly gay athlete with HIV to an almost forgotten sports icon. Back on Board is an engrossing story about an American legend.

Cheryl Furjanic
(Director) is an award-winning filmmaker who has been teaching documentary video production at NYU for over a decade. She worked as an associate producer on Judith Helfand & Daniel B. Gold’s Sundance award-winning documentary Blue Vinyl (HBO 2003). Her films have screened on television and at 100+ festivals nationwide. Cheryl holds a BFA from NYU – Tisch’s prestigious Film & Television School and a Masters degree from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program. Her first feature documentary, Sync or Swim (2008), screened at festivals nationwide and received numerous awards, including a Billie Award for Journalism from the Women’s Sports Foundation, and is now available on DVD.

Will Sweeney (Producer) is a writer, producer and director based in New York City. Will was a producer on the award-winning The Royal Tenenbaums and has worked in production and development at Miramax Films and Walt Disney Pictures. With an emphasis on story and character development, Sweeney has worked on dozens of major motion pictures including Rounders, Cider House Rules, and The Squid and The Whale. Will also is active in several progressive and grassroots political campaigns in New York City including marriage equality, expanding open space, and reforming immigration. Will graduated from the New York University-Tisch School of the Arts with a degree in Film & Television production.

Amanda Keropian (Co-Producer) a Southern California native, graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1998. Since then, she has worked with actor, director/producer Rob Morrow at his film and TV production company Bits & Pieces Picture Co. Working first as an assistant with Mr. Morrow on such projects as the feature film Maze (directed/produced by Rob Morrow and starring Laura Linney) as well as the CBS series Numb3rs (starring Rob Morrow, David Krumholtz and Judd Hirsch), Amanda has grown in the company to working in development and as a producer on such projects as the NBC pilot The Green Teem (produced along side Rob Morrow, Fisher Stevens and Chad Lowe). Most recently, Amanda produced, with fellow NYU Alum, Cheryl Furjanic, the award-winning feature documentary Sync or Swim, an inspiring behind-the-scenes look at the Olympic journey of the U.S. Synchronized Swimming Team.
